It’s never worked.

In the 12th Century, a cleric named Andreas Capellanus wrote a facetious manual on love, entitled De Amore. The piece included pick-up lines such as, “When the divine Being fashioned you, he left himself no further tasks.” and also some come-backs for rejection like, “Your objections to my bulging flabby legs and big feet are not securely grounded.”

It’s interesting to notice that men have not seemed to evolve in this area in 900 years.
